The Insta360 One X is a game changer in the world of 360 cameras for both photography and videography. It shoots all directions when you are recording, and you select what you want to capture AFTER you’ve already shot it. It’s a little hard to explain until you experience it, but imagine not having to actually worry about pointing your camera or worrying which way it is facing. With this camera, it simply doesn’t matter, because you are capturing everywhere!
WHY IT’S IN OUR CAMERA BAG
This is far and away the most unique camera in our bag! It takes up very little space for everything that it can do. This 360 camera gives us quick and stabilized footage as easily as possibly without having to even really think about where the camera is pointed. It records everything (all angles) at once!
WHAT WE USE IT FOR
We use the Insta360 One X when we want to save time while shooting. With this 360 camera you can get an almost limitless number of edits and angles from a single recorded clip. We also use this when we want to get some truly unique shots like Tiny Planet videos or photos as well as inverted planet footage. You simply cannot do those without a 360 camera!
PROS
This camera saves time on the shooting side. Essentially, it’s “shoot now, point and edit later”. Think meeting your kids for the first time and capturing your child AND your reaction simultaneously. Since the camera is filming every direction at once, you don’t need to be concerned if the camera is pointing at the right angle or direction. If it’s recording, you’re going to capture the moment! You “point” the camera AFTER you shoot it. I know it’s kind of a crazy concept but that’s exactly how it works! You can also achieve some truly cool shots with this since it actually removes the selfie stick out of the image, so it’s almost as though a drone is following you around (which is awfully useful when drones aren’t allowed) when you hold the stick with the camera on the end.
CONS
There are some disadvantages of this camera. For starters, the battery life is pretty short. Extra batteries are almost a must if you want to use this camera to get multiple shots. 5.7K footage sounds amazing, but remember that it’s shooting everywhere at once, so once you narrow it down to a 16:9 aspect ratio you’re already down to a 1080p resolution. Although shooting a scene couldn’t get any simpler, making use of that footage is where it does take some time. This is done primarily through an app on your smart phone where you can “point” the camera anywhere you like and record what angles you want from the file you shot.
INVESTMENT
This camera has great value for the money! At the time of writing this, the Insta 360 One X is just under $400 and the new and improved version 2 is only $30 more (improved image quality, video screen, and battery life, plus more).
ACCESSORIES
Invisible Selfie Stick – Exactly as it sounds, this selfie stick disappears in your photos and video with the Insta360 One X.
Tripod – This super-slim tripod is an easy add to the camera or invisible selfie stick, allowing for hands-free filming.
Memory Card – This camera shoots in 5.7 K resolution which means it takes up a lot of memory. I highly recommend going with a high speed 128 GB card.
Batteries – Insta360 states that this battery will last up to 60 minutes of continual shooting, but if you are going to be using this camera for a longer length of time, we’d recommend extra batteries for backup.

Insta360 One R – If a GoPro and 360 camera made a baby, this would be it. And it’s a rather attractive baby with the ability to both shoot 360 and perform as an action camera.
Insta360 Go – This is the tiniest camera with some really awesome results. It’s hands free with the ability to mount virtually anywhere. It shoots 30 or 60 second clips with the touch of a single button. It may not be ideal for times you want longer, uninterrupted clips, but for short shots, this is a dream.
If you have a birthday party and want to capture your kid blowing out the candles as well as your reaction to it all at the same time… this 360 camera is the camera for you! Or if you are meeting your child you’re adopting for the very first time and don’t want to miss a moment…this is the camera for you! It is really fun to use, gives you limitless possibilities in regards to creativity and takes almost no space in your bag to bring it along.
