SLR (Single Lens Reflex) cameras have been and always will be the gold standard in photography. They now do an amazing job with video as well, although if video is your primary concern, I’d recommend going with a full-frame mirrorless camera like the Sony a7r iii instead.

We have been using Nikon SLR cameras for the past 17 years and they have been a solid choice. However, an SLR may not be the best camera choice for you. It may be too much camera for you depending on what your level of knowledge is or willingness to learn. These cameras are for those looking to get a little more serious in their craft. They aren’t cheap, and they are bulky & heavy. The reality is, this is the camera that gets left behind the most due to its size. However, when we want the best images possible, this is our go-to camera!
