Travel day 2 went exceptionally well also. We had just enough time to relax and write in the Hong Kong airport and were then on our way to Bangkok. I am so thankful for my family’s heritage of traveling. In my head, getting through the airports was going to be a much bigger deal, but everything went really smoothly and I attribute part of that to our comfortability with traveling in general. The flight to Bangkok was a short one (2:15) and I was only able to fit in one movie (While You Were Sleeping). The screens on the back of the seats allow you to track the plane’s progress on a map and I was so excited as I started to see the plane getting closer and closer to Bangkok. Eventually you could look down and see the lights of the city and I just felt this wonderful peace and excitement, knowing we were so close.
Bangkok airport is MASSIVE, but after what seemed like a 3 mile walk, we made it through passport control and on to pick up our bags which did all arrive safely. Thank goodness! A little bit more walking took us to the shuttle to our airport hotel and within about 20 minutes, we were checked in to our hotel room. I think we calculated 29 hours of travel from our door at home to the door of our hotel room. We arrived pretty awake, but decided it would probably be best to sleep since it was about 2:00 in the morning. A little bit of melatonin did the trick and we were sound asleep before we knew it.
The airport hotel was gorgeous. Apparently rated #5 in the world’s best airport hotels. Super fancy and everyone was really kind. The room and bathroom were huge. If I were to do it all over again, the only thing I would change would be to get smaller change in the local currency quicker. We found an atm and got some money right away, but it was in 1,000 baht increments. That didn’t work so well when tipping the guys helping you with your luggage in the shuttle or getting it to your room. Now we know for next time.
Content, peaceful, and happy… the emotions of the moment.
