*The Above Image Was Taken With the Nikon J5 with 10-100mm Lens*
One of the biggest trends in cameras over the past few years has been in the mirrorless category. A traditional SLR camera uses a mirror that has to flip up and out of the way every time a photo is taken. They tend to be a little bigger and heavier. A mirrorless camera, you guessed it, does not incorporate a mirror at all; saving space and therefore making the camera much smaller and lighter. There are many options out there. For years we had a Nikon V1 and it served us well, but we wanted something with an lcd screen that could rotate allowing for interesting angles. We opted for the Nikon J5. It’s also very small and compact while still allowing the option to switch lenses.
We like our J5, but please note that there are mirrorless cameras out there that blow it out of the water as far as 4K video footage and photos go. They also cost a lot more money. If you want the best in mirrorless, I’d recommend going with the Sony a7R III. I’ve never personally used one, but again, I have watched hours of Youtube video reviews on cameras and it’s highly rated! If I could pick out a new camera for myself right now, this would be the one I’d get!
That being said, we have enjoyed our Nikon J5 and for the money, it’s a great little camera. If you only get one lens for this camera, we highly recommend the 10-100mm zoom lens. It’s extremely versatile and has built in image stabilization.
