Here’s a simple tip you can practice with both your photography as well as videography (you’ll find these tips can often be implemented in both mediums).
Framing your subject is a great way to draw special attention to it. What do I mean by “framing your subject”? It’s using something to block out part of your image to make sure your focus is on what you think is the most important thing. There are many ways to draw peoples’ attention to your subject like depth of field, lighting, motion blur, etc… Framing is simply another method to draw the viewers eyes towards what you want them to notice.
Anything can be used to frame your subject from trees to architecture to even your own hands or fingers. Whatever is used is secondary, but even that can add a certain level of interest.
I encourage you to practice your framing technique over the next few days after reading this, and you’ll find it’s a really fun way to take your images to a new level of creativity!
